Starting January 16, 2025, Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans worldwide will include Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft Designer. As an existing Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriber, you will automatically get access to Copilot in apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote when you update to the latest version.
Important: You may see varying subscription prices depending on your region. Existing subscribers won't experience price changes until their next renewal.
Existing subscribers with recurring billing enabled can switch to other plans without Copilot or AI credits like Microsoft 365 Basic, or, for a limited time, to our new Microsoft 365 Personal Classic or Microsoft 365 Family Classic plans.
Microsoft 365 Personal Classic and Microsoft 365 Family Classic plans include the following benefits at previous plan prices (varies by region):

Frequently asked questions
I am a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscriber. Do I need to do anything to receive the new Copilot and Designer value?
Existing subscribers will automatically get access to Copilot in their apps once they update to the latest version. Pricing changes will not happen until the next billing renewal period.
Can I switch to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family Classic and then upgrade to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family later?
Yes, you can upgrade to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family plans anytime. Note, Microsoft 365 Personal Classic and Microsoft 365 Family Classic plans are limited offers and may not always be offered as a plan option.
Can I keep the new plan changes and just turn on/off Copilot?
We know there are times when AI assistance isn’t desired or even permitted (like in some academic scenarios), so we’ve added settings in key apps like Microsoft Word that allow you to disable or enable Copilot as needed. See How to turn off Copilot in Microsoft 365 Family and Personal subscriptions for instructions.
Can I switch to a one-time purchase of Office?
Yes, Office 2024 is sold as a one-time purchase for one computer, available for both PCs and Macs. However, there is no upgrade, and you will lose access to Microsoft 365 subscription benefits such as cloud storage, cloud-connected features, advanced security, and Copilot in apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. To switch to Office 2024:
-
Sign in to Services & subscriptions with the Microsoft account associated with your subscription. Select Turn off recurring billing.
-
When your subscription expires, buy a one-time purchase of Office. See here for prices.
-
When you complete your purchase, open any app, such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint and switch your license to begin using Office.
How can I change the email address that's associated with my new plan?
The best way is to start your new plan using a different email address. To change your email address for a current subscription, contact Account and billing support.
