Over time, you may want to share with different people or sign in to Microsoft 365 on new devices. You can learn how to stop sharing with someone or sign out of Microsoft 365 from a device below.

Sharing is only possible if the invitee joins the subscription owners' family group. Once the invitee has joined, then the subscription owner can share the Microsoft 365 Family benefits.

Manage Microsoft 365 Family subscription members

If you are the owner of a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, you can view and manage the people you’re sharing your subscription benefits with. If you're not the subscription owner, you can see who's sharing Microsoft 365 Family with you and choose to leave the subscription if you wish.

View sharing

You can only share with a maximum of five other people. If you’re already sharing your subscription with five people and would like to share with someone new, you’ll have to stop sharing with someone before you share with the new person.

The subscription dashboard shows the number of shares used and remaining, categorized into these areas:

  • Members of your Microsoft family group that you have not yet shared with.

  • Members of your Microsoft family group that you have already shared with.

  • Other people that you have already shared with.

Available actions for each grouping are:

  • For people you have already shared with, you will see a  Stop sharing option.

When you stop sharing, they lose all their subscription benefits, including extra OneDrive storage and the ability to use Microsoft 365 desktop apps, but they won't be automatically removed from your family group - you must remove them manually

  • For family group members you have not yet shared with, you will see a  Start sharing option.

  • For people who you have shared with, but are not yet part of your Microsoft family group, you will see  Invite to family. Learn more about Microsoft family groups.

Manage your Microsoft 365 devices and installations

The Microsoft 365 Family subscription holder, and everyone the subscription has been shared with, can install Microsoft 365 desktop apps on all your devices.

Install Microsoft 365

You can only be signed in to Microsoft 365 on five devices at the same time, so if you have more than five devices, you'll be signed out of the first device automatically to stay within your sign-in limit.

To use Microsoft 365 on a device where you've been signed out, just sign back in. To learn more, see How sign in works in Microsoft 365.
