Note: This feature is currently rolling out to Copilot subscribers, and we hope to have it available to all subscribers soon.

  1. With your presentation open in PowerPoint, select the Copilot button from the Home tab of the ribbon.

  2. Type Translate this presentation into the prompt field at the bottom of the Copilot pane and select Send Send button. ppt translate invoked in copilot

  3. Using the dropdown menu select the language you'd like the presentation to be translated into, then select Translate. translate options shown in ppt copilot

  4. Copilot will create a new, translated, copy of your presentation. This may take a few moments to complete. If you're using this feature on Windows or Mac, you'll need to save this new copy. On the web the new translated version is automatically saved in same folder as the original, or in your OneDrive root folder.

Note: Your original copy of the presentation will be unchanged and only the text content will be translated, including text in text boxes, shapes, SmartArt, tables, speaker notes and comments. Text in media, such as images or videos, is not translated. Section titles are also not translated.

Supported languages

Translation is supported to and from any of Copilot's supported languages, but with one caveat. If you're translating into English or Spanish, no regional dialects (like UK or Spain) are supported. Just the primary languages of English or Spanish.

Keep in mind

  • Copilot doesn't make any changes to the slides as part of this process other than translating the text. For example, it doesn't mirror slide layout when translating from right-to-left to left-to-right (or vice-versa). Also, in some cases the translated text may be longer than the original text. Copilot won't change the layout or font size to make the new text fit.

  • If there are multiple languages in the source text Copilot may struggle to translate some of the words.

  • Translating large presentations (e.g., having more than one million text characters, more than a very large number of slides and slide masters, or file sizes larger than 500MB) is not currently supported.

  • Using this feature to translate presentations will generate Interaction audit logs, which can be accessed through the Purview Audit solution. When using this feature on Web, the generated audit log will contain the location (in OneDrive/SharePoint) where the translated copy was saved. When using this feature on Windows or Mac, the translated copy is created as an unsaved draft. Therefore, the audit log will not contain references to where this translated copy was created or eventually saved.

Note: This feature leverages Azure AI Translator for translation. Please refer to Azure AI  Translator’s transparency note & data handling to learn more.
