As a site owner you can create and manage the brand options for your site to reflect your professional style and brand.

Site branding is available under Settings in the top right corner of your SharePoint site. You can use the site branding feature alongside your organization branding to enhance your site or experience with a personal expression of your brand.  

Site branding will not override the settings for a site associated to a hub

Create and use a theme 

Site branding introduces the option for you to create and manage your own theme for your sites and experiences.  These themes will be available only within the site it was created within for site owners to select in Change the Look.  To learn more about creating themes visit Site theme.

  • Site branding options are available for selection in the Change the Look experience after it has been created.

  • Sites associated to a hub site will not be able to apply a theme per the hub site. Learn more about what is a hub site.

  1. On your site, select Settings   and then Site branding > Theme.

  2. Select + New theme to launch the theme designer experience.

  3. Choose colors for the Primary, Text, Background and Accent colors of your theme.

    • Primary color: The primary color is central to your brand identity and personality.  This color is used predominantly in your sites and experiences.

    • Text color: This color is used for the text in your experiences. Consider how this color will work with your selected primary and background colors.

    • Background color: The background color is used behind your text and images to display all of the content in your sites and experiences.

    • Accent color: This color is used sparingly to complement your primary color and enhance your content.

    Your organization may have provided a set of brand colors that you can utilize to create your theme.

  4. Configure the Dark theme setting for your theme.  This setting should be considered if you have customized your background color in your theme.  If you have used a light color for your background color of your theme this will remain off. If you have used a dark or darker color for the background color of your theme you should turn this setting on.  

    Dark theme will help to automatically adjust the text and other menu items to use lighter colors so it can be seen more easily.  This setting is utilized primarily for dark background themes.

  5. Give your theme a unique name and save to complete the creation of your theme. This name will be what is displayed in the Change the look experience.  

Create and use a font package 

Site branding also introduces the ability to customize your site with your own font package. .  These font packages will be available only within the site it was created within for site owners to select in Change the Look.  To learn more about creating font packages visit Font packages.

  • The font package experience is only available in tenants where the administrator has setup the SharePoint brand center and custom fonts have been made available for use.

  • Font packages can only be created from fonts with fonts designated through the SharePoint brand center. 

  1. On your site, select Settings   and then Site branding > Font packages.

  2. Select + New font package to launch the font package designer experience.

    • Step 1: Select display and content fonts using the font families visible in your font picker. You can select up to two different font families, you can select the same font family for both display and content fonts if desired.

    • Step 2: Select your font family and font style for each of the four font slot mappings.

    • Step 3: Name your font package and preview in different experiences. This unique font package name will appear in the Change the look experience for application to your site.

Manage your site branding 

Once you create a theme or font package for your site your brand options will appear in the Site branding experience.  From this experience you can select Rename to change the name or you can select Delete to remove the selected option from your site.  

After you create your theme and/or font package, you will visit the Change the look experience for the site and select and apply your branding to your site.

Applying your site branding 

To apply your site branding customizations, you will visit the Change the look settings and select your options and apply. Change the look settings are located under  Settings  in the top right corner of your SharePoint site.

Copying site branding 

Along with creating your own brand assets in the site branding experience, we are introducing the ability to copy another site’s branding into your site for application.  

  • Searching and copying site branding across sites in different geographies is not currently supported.

  • Visitor access to the site by the site owner initiating the copy process is required to copy the branding assets.

  1. Select Copy from another site to begin the copy process.Screenshot of site branding copy button cropped

  2. Choose a site to copy from by either searching with a keyword included in the site title or by pasting a site URL into the search box.Screenshot of site branding copy site choose site ​​​​​​​Once you have searched for your site, select it and review the preview of the site to confirm you have selected the correct site.

  3. As the site is selected and displayed, the available site branding will be shown in the Theme or Font package sections below the site selection.screenshot of Site branding copy select branding

  4. Select the branding assets you wish to copy and rename as desired. The names in this step will be what is shown in the site branding experience and without renaming in the Change the look experience.

  5. Save copy to initiate the copy action into your site branding experience.
