Whether you’re chatting in a group, in a meeting, or with one other person, it’s easy to delete a chat in Microsoft Teams (free).

From the Chat tab, find the chat you want to delete.
: You can delete one-on-one, group, and meeting chats.

Tap and hold the chat.

Tap Delete and then confirm that you want to delete it by tapping OK. You’ll then leave the meeting or chat.
: If you’re the meeting organizer and delete the chat, participants can use the chat but may not be able to join the meeting's call. Learn more about joining a meeting in Microsoft Teams (free).
When you delete a group or meeting chat:

The chat will be removed from your chat list. However, the chat will remain for the other group or meeting participants.

The other participants will see that you've left the meeting or group chat but won't know that you've deleted it.

Deleted chats are removed from all your devices and aren't searchable.

If you sign out of Microsoft Teams (free) and then sign in again, all previously deleted group and meeting chats remain deleted.

Any attached files, messages, and links shared in a chat will remain accessible to other participants in the chat. You can remove access to the previously shared files by changing permissions to the file. Learn more about changing permissions to OneDrive files.

Shared content like calendar items might not be deleted for all the other participants. If you want to delete them, you'll need to do so manually while you're in the chat.

If someone re-adds you to an ongoing group or meeting chat that you previously deleted, you’ll see the entire chat history again.
When you delete a one-on-one chat:

The chat will be removed from your chat list. However, the chat will remain for the other person.

If you delete a one-on-one chat, the other person won't know that you've deleted it.
-
Deleted chats are removed from all your devices and aren't searchable.

If you sign out of Microsoft Teams (free) and then sign in again, all previously deleted one-on-one chats remain deleted.
