When you upload a video to SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, or Yammer, Stream will autogenerate a thumbnail from the video's contents. You can change the thumbnail of audio or video files by uploading a new one or picking a frame from the video as the new thumbnail.

To pick a thumbnail from the video:

  1. Navigate to the video and open it.

  2. Select Video settings from the upper-right corner of the screen.

  3. Video settings will open in a pane to the right of the video.

  4. In the Thumbnail field, select the Edit thumbnail icon.

  5. On the player, move the seekbar playhead to the frame of the video you want to set as the thumbnail.

  6. Select the button Select this frame in the Thumbnail field to confirm your choice.

To upload a thumbnail for a video or audio file:

  1. Navigate to the video or audio file and open it.

  2. Select Video settings or Audio settings from the upper-right corner of the screen.

  3. Settings will open in a pane to the right of the file.

  4. In the Thumbnail field, select the Upload icon.

  5. Navigate to the thumbnail you want to upload and select it.

  6. Confirm your changes.

Note: Updating the thumbnail might not be immediately reflected on the page. This is due to an extended cache being used for loading the page. The expiration of this cache is dependent on the browser's settings and usage. Ref: Cache-Control - HTTP | MDN (mozilla.org) ​​​​​​​
