Video: Save, publish, and share
Applies To
PowerPoint 2013Save your file either to your computer, or to an online service like OneDrive. Then find out how to share it with others, even if they have an older version.
After you finish your presentation, PowerPoint 2013 has many options for saving, sending, printing and sharing it, and you'll find all of these options here in the backstage.
Like Save As.
We used it before to save our presentation, but you can also save the presentation to an online service.
I have already logged on to my account in PowerPoint. So, now I can save the presentation the same way I'd save to my computer, only now I can access it from any computer connected to the Internet.
Click Share after you save a presentation, if you want to share it with others.
Or, you can Export in a number of other file types, such as PDF or Create a Video file of your presentation.
Now you have a pretty good idea of what is involved in making the switch from PowerPoint 2003 to PowerPoint 2013. There is just one more thing you should know and it is about compatibility.
In the second video, we converted a PowerPoint 2003 PPT file to the new PPTX format. The two formats are different, but in most cases you will only run into a problem when you want to share your presentation with someone who uses PowerPoint 2003.
If that's the case, you have two options. First, in PowerPoint 2013, go to the backstage.
Click Info, click Check for Issues, and then, run the compatibility checker.
If you decide to move ahead, then you can save the file as a ppt file.
Click Save As, choose a location, and then, in the Save As dialog box, change the Save as type to PowerPoint 97 to 2003.
Then, the person you are sharing the file with can open the presentation in the older version of PowerPoint.
The second option for the person using PowerPoint 2003 is to go to Office.com and download an add-in called the Compatibility Pack.
After they install it on the computer with PowerPoint 2003, they can then open pptx files in their older program.
A link to the Compatibility Pack is available at the course summary.
So, that's it. You should have all the information you need to make the switch to PowerPoint 2013.
Of course, there's more to learn. So, check out the course summary for more information.
