Choose channels to display in Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams includes channels for collaborations around a specific topic, department, or project. Once you join a team, you can also choose which channels to show based on interest or relevance.
If you already know which channel you’d like to show, search for it by name. You can also update your existing Teams and channel list by reviewing shown channels and showing hidden channels.
Find channels to show
When you first join a team, you’ll receive a notification that gives you the option to choose which channels you’d like to regularly interact with. You can also select channels any time after you’ve joined a team.
To choose your channels:
-
On your list of teams and channels, go to the team you’ve joined.
-
Select See all channels to view the team’s channels.
-
From the list, choose the channels you’d like to show.
Note: Recommended channels are those recommended by team owners.
-
Once you’ve chosen the channels you’d like to show, hover over the channel name to select Show.
Tip: Select any channel to preview it. Previewed channels temporarily show in italics on your channel’s list. To continue showing the channel, select See all channels. Then, instead of selecting it, hover over its name and select Show.
Update your default channel list
Microsoft Teams automatically shows a team’s first channel on your channel list. Customize it to show additional channels that interest you.
Note: Teams you’ve already joined will continue to show their existing channels.
To update your default channel list, start by selecting See all channels. Then, choose, sort and select channels or preview channels you’d like to show.
Sort channels
To sort channel options, select the drop-down arrow next to Sort.
-
To list recommended channels first, select Recommended first.
-
To list in alphabetical order, select A-Z or Z-A.
-
To list based on when it was last used, select By activity.
