Microsoft OneNote for iPad and iPhone makes it easy to select ink strokes and drawings in order to manipulate them.

Note: Keep in mind that OneNote or iPad and iPhone does not currently support converting handwritten notes to text.

iPad

  1. Open a page that contains handwritten notes or a drawing, or tap the Draw tab, select a pen, and then use your finger or stylus to write or draw on the page.

  2. On the Draw tab, tap Lasso Select, and then use your finger or stylus to draw an outline around the ink strokes you want to select. Be sure to connect the end point of your selection to where you started.

  3. When the ink is selected, 8 selection handles will appear around the selection. To continue, do one of the following:

    • If the selection correctly includes all of the ink strokes you wanted to include, tap and hold your finger inside the selection, and then release it to display a menu with available options for the selection (see Cut, copy, delete, or move an ink selection in Microsoft OneNote).

    • Change the color of selected ink strokes. With an ink stroke selected, on the Draw tab, select a different pen color. Learn more about working with pen colors and thickness.

    • If the selection does not correctly include the ink strokes you wanted to select, tap outside of the current selection ans then try lasso-selecting again.

  4. Depending on the action you take on a selection of ink strokes, you may need to tell OneNote to exit Lasso Select mode. To do this, do either of the following:

    • To continue in drawing mode after working with lasso selection, tap the pen you want on the Draw tab, and then continue writing or drawing on the current page.

    • To continue in text mode after working with lasso selection, tap the Text Mode button on the Draw tab, and then tap the current page to display the on-screen keyboard.
