Large notebooks

If your notebook has a particularly large section, you might want to create a new notebook for just that section. Creating a second notebook can speed things up if you have lots of content.

Try following these other tips to improve the responsiveness of the app:

  • Reduce the number of sections in your notebook.

  • Reduce the number of pages in a section.

  • Reduce the amount of content on each page.

To view how much storage space OneNote and your notebooks are using, do the following:

  1. Tap Settings on the Home screen.

  2. Tap General, and then do one of the following:

    • If you’re using an iPad, tap iPad Storage. You might need to wait a few moments for the iPad to calculate app storage sizes.

    • If you’re using an iPhone, tap iPhone Storage. You might need to wait a few moments for the iPhone to calculate app storage sizes.

  3. Scroll down and find OneNote in the list of apps to see the amount of space that OneNote is using.

  4. Scroll back to the top to see how much local storage space is remaining on your device.

If OneNote is using up more storage than you’d like, try closing any notebooks that you’re not using. This will free up space on your device and improve OneNote’s responsiveness. Learn how to close notebooks.

If the storage space on your iPad or iPhone is nearly full, try the following:

Note: Not all of the following storage management features may be available on your device.

  • Enable iCloud Photo Library to automatically upload and store your entire library in the cloud.

  • Use the Review Large Attachments feature. You can view which photos, videos, and other attachments are taking up the most room in your messaging apps, and them delete them.

  • Use the Review Personal Videos feature. You can view which videos stored on your device are taking up the most room, and them delete them.

  • Delete any unnecessary apps from your device, especially those at the top of the iPad or iPhone Storage list.

Syncing notebooks

When you sync your notebooks for the first time, it can take a while, depending on your network speed and on the number of notebooks you’re syncing.

Wait until all of your notebooks have completed syncing before using OneNote.
