Use a screen reader to add top-level key dates in Roadmap

This article is for people who use a screen reader program such as Windows Narrator, JAWS, or NVDA with Microsoft 365 products. Use Project for the web with your keyboard and screen reader to add and edit top-level key dates in your roadmap. We have tested it with Narrator in Microsoft Edge, but it might work with other screen readers and web browsers as long as they follow common accessibility standards and techniques.

Notes:

  • When you use Project for the web, we recommend that you use Microsoft Edge as your web browser. Because Project for the web runs in your web browser, the keyboard shortcuts are different from those in the desktop program. For example, you’ll use Ctrl+F6 instead of F6 for jumping in and out of the commands. Also, common shortcuts like F1 (Help) and Ctrl+O (Open) apply to the web browser – not Project for the web.

Add key dates

After you have created a roadmap in Project Home, you can add key dates.

  1. When you open a roadmap from Project Home, you hear "Roadmap name" and its name. Press the Tab key until you hear "Command toolbar, Add row," press the Right arrow key until you hear "Add key date," and then press Enter.

  2. Type a name for the key date.

  3. Press the Tab key. You hear: "Due date." Press Enter to open the calendar dialog box.

  4. Use the Down and Up arrow keys to select the week, and use the Right and Left arrow keys to select the day. Press Spacebar to select the date and close the dialog box.

  5. Press the Tab key. You hear: "Status." Press Enter, and then use the Down and Up arrow keys to move between the status options. When you find the one you want, press Spacebar.

  6. Press the Tab key. You hear: "Add key date." Press Enter to finish adding the date to your roadmap.

  7. If you want to add more key dates, press Enter, and then repeat steps 2-6.

Edit or delete key dates

  1. In your roadmap, press the Tab key or Shift+Tab until you hear "High level key dates and rows," and then press Enter. You hear the name, due date, and status of the first key date in the roadmap. Use the Right and Left arrow keys to move between the key dates, and press Enter to open the details callout for a key date.

  2. Press Shift+Tab. You hear: "Open details, button." Press Enter to open the Key date pane.

  3. Press the Tab key or Shift+Tab to move between the name, due date, and status of the key date, and edit them as necessary. For more information, refer to steps 2-5 in Add key dates.

  4. If you want to delete the key date, press the Tab key until you hear "Delete key date, button," and then press Enter. Press the Tab key until you hear "Delete, button," and then press Enter to confirm the deletion.

  5. Press Esc to close the Key date pane.
