How to add audio or music to videos

Note: The tutorial steps in this article are from Clipchamp for personal accounts. The same principles apply to Clipchamp for work.

You can add audio to a Clipchamp video editing project in a few different ways. Available options are:

  • Drag and drop audio files from your device.

  • Import audio using the import media button.

  • Create an AI voiceover using text to speech.

  • Create an audio and voice recording using the audio recorder.

  • Add stock music from the content library.

Adding audio files from your computer

Option 1. Drag and drop audio files into the media tab

  1. Click on the your media tab on the toolbar.

  2. Drag and drop any audio files directly from your device into the importing media panel.

Option 2. Use the import media button

  1. Click on the your media tab on the toolbar.

  2. Select one of the following options below:

    • Click on the import media to upload audio directly from your computer.

    • Click on the drop-down arrow to import files or connect cloud storage.

    • In Clipchamp for work, you can add media files from OneDrive and your computer.

    • In Clipchamp for personal accounts, you can add media files from your computer, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Xbox.

Create an AI voiceover using text to speech 

Users can add AI generated voiceovers to video projects by using the text to speech feature.

  1. Click on the record & create tab.

  2. Click on the text to speech option, this will automatically open the text to speech tab on the property panel.

  3. Select your language from the language drop-down arrow. This selection includes accent and pronunciation options.

  4. Select your voice style from the voice drop-down arrow. Each option includes a small description of the character and tone. Click on the hear this voice button to preview your selection.

  5. Click on the advanced drop-down menu to edit the pitch and pace of your voiceover.

  6. Type your script in the text box in the text to speech tab on the property panel.

  7. Click on the preview button to hear your selected voice read your script.

  8. Click on the save button. This will add the AI voiceover to the timeline and save the audio file to the your media tab.

Add a stock audio file

If you don't want to use your own audio, or create an AI voiceover, take a look at the royalty-free stock audio library.

  1. Click on the content library tab.

  2. Click on the audio drop-down arrow and select music or sound effects.

  3. Browse the stock audio library by collection or use the search bar to explore using keywords.

  4. When you've found an audio asset you want to use in your video, click on the add to timeline button.

Create an audio and voice recording using the audio recorder 

Depending on your account, there are two options to record audio directly in Clipchamp.​

  1. Click on the record & create tab on the toolbar.

    • In Clipchamp for personal accounts, select the audio button. This will let you record a voiceover that will get added as an MP3 file to your timeline.

    • In Clipchamp for work, select the webcam button. Inside the webcam recorder, you can switch to audio-only recording.

How to add audio to the timeline

After a new audio file appears in the your media tab, you can add io the timeline in two ways. 

  1. Click on the your media tab on the toolbar.

    • Hover your cursor over the audio asset then click on the add to timeline button.

    • Click on an audio asset then drag and drop it directly onto the timeline.

Once you've added the audio, you can move, split, or trim the audio track and perform additional editing operations.

What to do if an audio file doesn't import?

If a music track doesn't appear when you try to add it or it doesn't load properly:
