Some Office pre-installed PC in Japan may include a Microsoft 365 Basic 12 month freesubscription offer.

The Microsoft 365 Basic subscription offer is a digital product as same as other Office products or Microsoft 365 free offers included with your device. If you purchase a PC with a Microsoft 365 Basic offer, you will be informed during the Windows OOBE process that your device comes with the offer.

If you want to start the subscription by the offer included with your device, you should perform the steps at the either stage (Windows OOBE or the Microsoft Store app) following below.

Important: The subscription offer will be expired if you will not start it within 180 days after the Windows is activated on your device. So, be sure to start it as soon possible. If you want to make sure the expiration date, you can make sure it in the Microsoft 365 Basic offer shown under the "Included with device" tab in the Microsoft store app.

  1. Boot new Windows pre-installed device

  2. The first screen of the Windows OOBE opens

  3. Connect to Internet and then accept the Windows license agreement

  4. Sign in Windows with your Microsoft account and set up the Microsoft experiences

  5. Explore your Microsoft 365 Basic subscription screen opens to inform that your device comes with a Microsoft 365 Basic 12-month subscription offer

  6. Select Continue button if you want to start the subscription (If you select Decline button in the screen, the steps to start the subscription will be skipped. You can start the subscription in the Microsoft Store app after the Windows OOBE finished.)

  7. Confirm your billing details screen opens (If the screen opens with the "⊕ Add payment method", go to Step 8 to 10 to add a payment method into your Microsoft account. If you have already set a payment method in your Microsoft account, go to Step 11.)

  8. Select Add payment method button

  9. Enter your payment method information

  10. Select Save button

  11. Confirm your billing details screen opens with your payment method shown

  12. Select Confirm button

  13. You're all set! screen opens (After finish the Windows OOBE, you can confirm the subscription is started in your Microsoft account dashboard.)

  14. Select Next button

  15. Proceed and finish the Windows OOBE

(If you declined to start the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription in Windows OOBE)

  1. Start the Microsoft store app on your device

  2. Sign into the app with your Microsoft account

  3. Select the Library icon > Included with device tab to see the Microsoft 365 Basic | 12-month Subscription

  4. Select the Claim button in it

  5. The Subscribe dialog opens with the string, "To get started, add a payment instrument" (If the dialog with this string opens, go to Step 6 and 7 to add a payment instrument in your Microsoft account. If you have already added a payment instrument in your Microsoft account, go to Step 8.)

  6. Select Next button in it

  7. Enter your payment instrument information and select Save button

  8. The Subscribe dialog opens with your payment instrument

  9. Select the Subscribe button

  10. The Success! dialog opens

  11. Select the Done button in it​​​​​​​

After the steps, the 12 months subscription will start with your Microsoft account from the day.

You can use the services of the Microsoft 365 Basic on your multiple devices. If you want to check the status of your subscription, please visit the "Services & subscriptions" in the Microsoft account dashboard.

Note: This subscription will start with recurring billing turned on by default. After the first year, you will be billed for next 12 months subscription and your subscription will be extended automatically.
