1. Select the table cells you'd like to split. 

  2. On the table Layout tab that appears on the right, select  Split Cells button  Split Cells.

  3. Enter the number of columns and rows to split the cells into and select OK

Splitting multiple cells isn't currently possible in Word for the web. You can, however, split multiple cells in the Word desktop app.

  • To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing and choose Open in Desktop App.
