In order to focus resources on new technologies and operating systems, and to provide customers with the most up-to-date and secure experience, beginning January 1, 2022, updates will no longer be provided for the consumer version of our OneDrive desktop application on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.
: Personal OneDrive desktop apps running on these operating systems will stop syncing to the cloud on March 1, 2022.
Files will continue to sync via your OneDrive desktop application until March 1, 2022, after which time files will no longer sync and should be updated using the web experience.
What do I need to do?
If you are currently using one of these operating systems, we recommend updating your operating system to either Windows 10 or Windows 11 to avoid disruption.
For machines that do not meet system requirements for Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating system update, you can back up and protect your files by manually uploading them to the OneDrive website, and continue to access, edit, and share your files on all your devices.
: If you sign in to OneDrive with a work or school account, starting January 1, 2022, support for this application will be aligned with the Windows support lifecycle. Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are in extended support until January 10, 2023. Windows 8 reached end of support on January 12, 2016.
What will happen to my files?
Files that have already been synced will still be accessible in your OneDrive.
After March 1, 2022, you will no longer be able to sync or access synced files through Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. You will need to use the OneDrive website.

If you see an error message which states Error 0x80070185: "The cloud operation was unsuccessful" or "Error code 0x8004def1: An update is required", check that your computer and OneDrive versions are up to date. Learn more.
