ISSUE
The Advanced Typography feature was enabled by default for classic Outlook and Word starting with version 2403 (Build 17410.20000). In recent builds the settings to control the feature are partially missing. Currently, users can control the Advanced Typography feature for outgoing mail, but there are no settings to control the feature when reading email or working in Word.
The missing settings for classic Outlook are shown below.
The Advanced Typography missing settings for Word are shown below.
STATUS: FIXED
The missing Advanced Typography settings are added back starting in Version 2502 (Build 18501.20000). For build availability see Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps.
To work around the issue, set the registry key below to disable the Advanced Typography feature for reading mails:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Options\WordMail DWORD: AdvancedTypographyReading Value: 0
