If any issues are encountered when using the current version of the Input Method Editor (IME), IME supports a compatibility setting that allows reverting to the previous version of IME. To enable the previous version of IME, choose one of the following methods:

Right-click on the IME options icon in the system tray area of the taskbar and then select Settings.

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME window, select General.

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME > General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.

Use one of the following Microsoft IME shortcuts to directly open the Microsoft IME settings in the Settings app:Open Japanese IME settingsOpen Pinyin IME settingsOpen Wubi IME settings

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME window, select General.

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME > General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.

Select Start and then select Settings > Time & language > Language & region .Open Time & language > Language & region
Or Select the following Time & language > Language & region shortcut: -
In the Time & language > Language & region window, under the Language section, select the ellipses next to the desired language and then select Language options.

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options window, under the Keyboards section, select the ellipses next to Microsoft IME and then select Keyboard options.

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME window, select General.

In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME > General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.
Support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025
After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates from Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but we recommend moving to Windows 11.

In the General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.
Important: Microsoft doesn't recommend using the compatibility setting for the long term. The compatibility setting is meant as a temporary workaround for an issue.
