How to change the volume of a video or audio clip

Note: The tutorial steps in this article are from Clipchamp for personal accounts. The same principles apply to Clipchamp for work.

Adjust the sound of your audio or video clip down to mute or up to 200% without sacrificing audio quality. 

How to increase or decrease the volume of a video clip

  1. Click on the video clip in the timeline so it's highlighted.

  2. Click on the audio tab on the property panel. The video volume will automatically be set to 100%.

  3. Click and drag the volume slider to adjust your video volume, right for louder and left for quieter.

How to adjust the volume of an audio clip

  1. Click on the audio clip in the timeline so it's highlighted.

  2. Click on the audio tab on the property panel. Your audio's volume will automatically be set to 100%.

  3. Drag the volume slider right to increase the volume or left to decrease.

How to detach and delete your video's audio

  1. Right-click on the video clip on the timeline so it's highlighted.

  2. Hover your cursor over the audio option and click on the detach button.

  3. The audio clip will now appear below the video on a different layer on the timeline. It will also automatically save to the your media tab if relinking media assets is required.

  4. To delete the audio press on the delete key on your keyboard.

Undoing a change

You can return the video or audio clip to its original volume at any time.

  1. Select the video or audio clip on the timeline so it's highlighted.

  2. Drag the volume slider back to 100%.

  3. You can also use the undo and redo buttons on the top left of the stage.

Adding a fade-in or fade-out effect

In addition to adjusting the audio volume as described above, you can also add a fade-in or fade-out effect to a clip. This is useful to slowly increase or decrease the volume at the start or end of a video. Find out how you can achieve this in the following article: How to add transitions and fades.
