If you have an HP 4500 or HP 8500 Officejet printer, problems with the print spooler service might prevent Office from installing. To fix this, temporarily stop the print spooler.
-
Cancel the installation by closing the setup window (click the X in the corner). If the window doesn't close, use Task Manager to stop the installation:
-
Windows 8: Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager. If necessary, click More details to expand the list on the Processes tab. Then click Microsoft Office Click-to-Run > End Task.
-
Windows 7: Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager. On the Processes tab, click officeclicktorun.exe > End Process.
-
-
Go to the list of services:
-
Windows 8: On the Start screen, type services.msc and then click services in the list of results.
-
Windows 7: Click Start > Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
-
-
Double-click Print Spooler, and then click Stop > OK.
-
Try installing Office again.
-
If you're a home user, sign in to your account page and click Install.
-
If you're a business user, sign in to the Microsoft 365 portal and click Install.
-
-
After Office is installed, go back to the list of services and open Print Spooler.
-
Windows 8: On the Start screen, type services.msc and then click services in the list of results. Double-click Print Spooler, and then click Start > OK.
