Important: Copilot in Outlook only supports work or school accounts, and Microsoft accounts using outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, and msn.com email addresses at this time. Any Microsoft account using a third-party email provider, such as Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud, can still use Outlook, but won't have access to the Copilot features in Outlook.
Note: To use Copilot in Outlook you'll need to have either a Microsoft 365 Copilot (Work) or Copilot Pro (Home) license.
What can Copilot in Outlook do?
Copilot combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with Outlook data to help you stay productive in the workplace.
Summarize: Quickly extracts key points from email threads.
For more information, see Summarize an email thread with Copilot in Outlook.
Draft with Copilot: Generates full-length email drafts from prompts based on thread context and organizational information. Just type /, select Draft with Copilot, and enter your prompt in the dialog box.
For more information, see Draft an email message with Copilot in Outlook.
Coaching by Copilot: Provides feedback on email drafts by suggesting improvements for tone, sentiment, and clarity. If you like the suggestions Coach offers, you can apply them directly to the email draft by selecting Apply all suggestionsEmail coaching with Copilot in Outlook.
For more information, seeChat with Copilot: Have conversations about information that's specific to your organization and information available on the web. The Copilot window opens beside the existing Outlook window, so you can interact and chat with Copilot while continuing to use Outlook.
For more information, see Chat with Copilot in Outlook
Themes by Copilot: Generates AI-generated themes based on users’ context, style preferences, and interests. Open the custom theme creator to build your own theme or click one of the other tiles to apply a default Copilot theme.
For more information, see Create an Outlook theme with Copilot
Note: The feature is available to customers with a Microsoft 365 Copilot (work) license.
Create a meeting invitation from within an email thread: Copilot creates a meeting invitation for you, based on an email. The meeting title and agenda are filled in for you, and the email thread is added as an attachment. The people on the email thread are included as meeting attendees, and you can quickly review and edit the invitation, then send it out.
For more information, see Quickly create a meeting invitation from an email discussion in new Outlook
These features are not supported on signed or encrypted emails, on emails with IRM, or on some MIP labeled emails. For a comprehensive guide on using Copilot in Outlook, see Welcome to Copilot in Outlook.

Copilot scenarios in Outlook can't access encrypted emails. Support is coming soon for Microsoft 365 Message Encryption emails for which the ExtractAllowed property is set to true. Other encryption methods like S/MIME or Double Key Encryption will not be supported by Copilot scenarios.
Chatting with Copilot in Outlook is only available if you're using a work or school account and you're using new Outlook for Windows or Outlook on the web. Currently, the Copilot chat experience doesn't have context for anything you might select in the Outlook reading pane, nor can it search or extract information from specific Outlook folders.
Right now, themes by Copilot can be generated based on a place of interest, your current location, or your weather. Available styles include realistic, oil painting, and cartoon. Additional theme types, styles, and open prompting are not currently supported.
As with any AI generated content it's a great tool to get started, but it's important that you review, edit, and verify anything it creates for you.
Many languages are supported in Copilot scenarios. The quality is expected to be highest in English, while in other languages the quality is expected to be improved over time. More languages and locales will be added in the future. Find more information at Supported languages for Microsoft Copilot.
