Use Microsoft Lists with your keyboard and a screen reader to find and manage your lists. We have tested it with Narrator, JAWS, and NVDA, but it might work with other screen readers as long as they follow common accessibility standards and techniques. You'll learn how to add or remove favorite lists, browse recently used lists, search for a list, and customize a list.

Add or remove favorite lists

Add a list to your favorites so that you can access it quickly. Your favorite lists are displayed first in the Microsoft Lists main page.

  1. Open the list you want to add to your favorites.

  2. Press the Tab key until you hear "Favorite this list," and then press Enter.

  3. To remove a list from your favorites, press the Tab key until you hear "Favorite this list, toggle button," and then press Enter.

Browse recent lists

The Recent lists section in the Microsoft Lists main page shows the lists you have recently created or worked on, or lists someone else has shared with you.

  • To browse the Recent lists section, press the Tab key or Shift+Tab until you hear the first list in the section, and then press the SR key+Right or Left arrow key to navigate between the lists in the section.

  • To have the section include only the lists in your personal storage, press the Tab key until you hear "View switcher," press Spacebar to open the dropdown menu, press the Tab key until you hear "My lists," and then press Spacebar to select it.

  • To have the section include only the lists you've created, press the Tab key until you hear "All recent lists," press Spacebar to open the dropdown menu, press the Tab key until you hear "Recent lists I created," and then press Spacebar to select it.

Search for a list

  1. In the Microsoft Lists main page, press the Tab key until you hear "Search box," type your search term, and then press Enter. The search results are displayed on the main page.

  2. To browse the search results, press the Tab key until you hear "Results from all lists," and then navigate between the search results by pressing the SR key+Left or Right arrow key.

  3. To open a list in the search results, press the SR key+Right arrow key until you hear "Link," followed by the name of the list, and then press Enter.

Customize a list

In the Settings dialog box, you can change the name, color, and icon for a list.

  1. In the Microsoft Lists main page, navigate to the list you want to customize.

  2. Press the Tab key until you hear "Open actions," and then press Enter to open the dropdown menu. You hear: "Settings." Press Enter to open the Settings dialog box.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • To change the list name, press the Tab key until you hear "Name," followed by the list name. Edit or type a new name for the list.

    • To change the list icon color, press the Tab key until you hear "Choose a color," followed by the currently selected color. Press the SR key+Left or Right arrow key to change the color.

    • To change the list icon, press the Tab key until you hear "Choose an icon," followed by the currently selected icon. Press the SR key+Left or Right arrow key to change the icon.

  4. To save your changes, press the Tab key until you hear "Save," and then press Enter.

Add or remove favorite lists

Add a list to your favorites so that you can access it quickly. Your favorite lists are displayed first in the Microsoft Lists main page.

  1. Open the list you want to add to your favorites.

  2. Press the Tab key until you hear "White star, unticked," and then press Spacebar.

  3. To remove a list from your favorites, press the Tab key until you hear "Black star, ticked," and then press Spacebar.

Browse recent lists

The Recent lists section in the Microsoft Lists main page shows the lists you have recently created or worked on, or lists someone else has shared with you.

  • To browse the Recent lists section, press the Tab key or Shift+Tab until you hear "Recent lists, group," and then press the Right or Left arrow key to navigate between the lists in the section.

  • To have the section include only the lists in your personal storage, press the Tab key until you hear "View switcher," press Spacebar to open the dropdown menu, press the Down arrow key until you hear "My lists," and then press Spacebar to select it.

  • To have the section include only the lists you've created, press the Tab key until you hear "All recent lists filter," press Spacebar to open the dropdown menu, press the Down arrow key until you hear "Recent lists I created," and then press Spacebar to select it.

Search for a list

  1. In the Microsoft Lists main page, press the Tab key until you hear "Search box," type your search term, and then press Return. The search results are displayed on the main page.

  2. To browse the search results, press the Tab key until you hear "Results from all lists," and then navigate between the search results by pressing the Left or Right arrow key.

  3. To open a list in the search results, press Return.

Customize a list

In the Settings dialog box, you can change the name, color, and icon for a list.

  1. In the Microsoft Lists main page, navigate to the list you want to customize.

  2. Press the Tab key until you hear "Open actions," and then press Spacebar to open the dropdown menu. You hear: "Settings." Press Return to open the Settings dialog box.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • To change the list name, press the Tab key until you hear the list name, followed by "Name." Edit or type a new name for the list.
